Mary Morris
Mary Morris is the author of four books of poetry, most recently Lanterns in the Night Market. Other books include Enter Water, Swimmer (selected by X. J. Kennedy); Dear October (New Mexico-Arizona Book Award); and Late Self-Portraits (selected by Leila Chatti for the Wheelbarrow Books Prize). Her poems have been published in Poetry Magazine, The Massachusetts Review, Prairie Schooner, The Los Angeles Review, North American Review, Arts & Letters, Boulevard, Poetry Daily, and Verse Daily. She is the recipient of the Rita Dove Award, Western Humanities Review Mountain West Prize, the New Mexico Discovery Award, the 2021 National Federation Press Women’s Book Award, the 2021 New Mexico Book Award, and finalist for the 2021 International Book Award. Mary has also been invited to read her poems at the Library of Congress. The LoC recording aired on National Public Radio and is included in the Poetry Readings & Interviews of the Lunar Codex, which was sent to the moon She was featured in the international jouurnal PhotoSpecchio in 2024. Kwame Dawes selected her work for American Life in Poetry from the Poetry Foundation.
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Mary also studied poetry at Long Island University and received a full scholarship at the Southwest Literary Foundation. Mary lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, writes book reviews, and has taught poetry privately and in schools.
